In fact, it is the third largest church in the world, and the two larger churches are Basilicas. So, with that in mind, we set off on a 3 hour tour with only a pamphlet in our hands. The Cathedral was under renovations while we visited, but that only meant a few side chapels were not available for viewing. That was fine with us because there are 80 chapels at the Cathedral.

Each side chapel was beautiful with intricate details in them. Everyone was taking pictures.
Opening our phones to find out more, we realized this was the burial site of Christopher Columbus! While some other cities have claimed they have the remains of Christopher Columbus, Seville conducted a DNA test on the remains to prove that they hold his true remains.
Around each corner, there were dozens of relics and architectural masterpieces to gawk over. There is a mirror on the ground that allows you to take selfies with the ceiling.

We tried to do it, but people kept sticking their faces in the mirror trying to figure out what we were looking at. They seemed disappointed to find out we were looking at ourselves. Finally, we climbed to the top of the Giralda, the bell tower. From there, you could see across the entire city. Definitely worth the 10 minutes of spiraling stairs upward.

Alas, the long visit to the Cathedral tired us out but we got some time to take pictures in the garden. Beware, when you leave the cathedral, there will be gypsies selling rosemary and who knows what else. This is a known trick for pick-pocketing. Plaza de Toros. Our arrival to Seville was one week late to see live bull fights! We were led by the guide through the museum and heard about different historical pieces and works of art. We saw famous bulls stuffed, of course , bullfighter costumes, and paintings about the bullfights. Unfortunately, construction was underway and we were unable to go out in to the ring.
We did get to poke our heads in for a few pictures though! Watching a live bullfight would be very impressive in the 12, person stadium. Plaza de Espana. One of the first things we did when we did in Seville was a stroll to Plaza de Espana. This palatial plaza is awe inspiring. The rich colors and tiling detail on the building are immaculate. Our curiosity drove us to the Wikipedia page to discover the plaza was created as an exhibition for the World Fair. Nevertheless, this building is an amazing architectural marvel to visit and should be a part of your Seville tour.
There is also a small canal you can adventure through on a gondola ride. For you big Star Wars fans, you may recognize this as the site of the palace courtyard on Naboo from Attack of the Clones! It is an absolute must while in Spain to go to a Flamenco show. When we spoke to the hotel concierge about these shows, they suggested that we only buy tickets and not the accompanying dinner. That was alright by us. We had a few picked out and asked the hotel for guidance on which one was the best they suggested Bar Arenal Flamenco.
The performances blew us away. Definitely enjoyed the evening experience of dancing and music. The dancers were so emotional and energetic; truly a beautiful experience. Our table ended up in the front row — if you have a choice, do NOT sit in the front row. It is tough to see everything happening on stage from the vantage point, plus you are in dress swinging and sweat flying range.
Find a seat a bit further back and it will be a wonderful experience through and through. The Parasol is a big wooden structure in the middle of the old quarter of Seville. They say its the biggest wooden structure in the world. El Rinconcillo — This is the top rated restaurant in Seville on the Michelin Guide and we made it a priority to make it there for dinner.
We stuck to the classics, Iberico ham, Machego cheese, spinach and garbanzo beans. The best in Seville! We were lucky to get the last open table of the evening and watched countless other tourists try to get tables and many were frustrated when they stopped taking names on the list.
15 days, Madrid to Madrid
One thing we really liked about this place is how unassuming and unpretentious it felt. It could easily charge more or try to be more exclusive, but they are customer-oriented with fabulous service. We would definitely recommend going to this place! La Bodeguita de Sierpes — We stopped in this restaurant for a quick tapa and beers because, well, Spain. Nothing special about the cafe. Almiranta — Oh my goodness. This was a little gem of a place. As we strolled along from the Plaza del Toros towards the Seville Cathedral, we checked out menus for all the cafes.
This place fit the bill of not too busy, not too expensive and a menu with enough things on it that we understood. We got a table on the patio and were expecting average fair; our tapas were anything but average. The croquettes are crispy and not too greasy, baked brie oozed with deliciousness, garlic prawns so delightful, and the beef tenderloin had just the right pairing of truffle to round out our meal!
Highly recommend and right near Real Alcazar and the Cathedral. Bar Agustin — This bar was extremely highly ranked and on our way to the Flamenco, so we hurried over to get a table. The space is small, only 15 or so tables including the outdoor tables. We were excited to try some sherry with our chorizo, manchego, croquettes and tuna belly. Lezli Rees. Norman Renouf. It has an illustrious history assisted by being the only inland port in Spain, with many ancient monuments, connections to the Americas, and a style, elegance and beauty that is unmatched in Spain. Men in their country outfits, women in those glorious flamenco-style dresses, and horses and horse-drawn carriages everywhere.
All-in-all, an eclectic experience in this otherwise modern world.
